Old medicine chest in bathroom has burnt fixture, need electrical help?
When I tried to remove old chest, even though I thought electrical was off, it sparked and popped. should I continue to remove cabinet or wait for someone with more knowledge of electrical? I know a little, but no expert.
p.s.=my electrical reading device measures nothing.
Check your breaker box or fuse box and see if there is another circuit tripped now. This probably tripped the circuit. If so, continue with the removal. Otherwise try to figure out which circuit it is in the breaker box and turn it off before proceeding.

Sounds as though you my have another breaker to turn off in your power load center.
If you are in a single dwelling house then you can turn off your main breaker to the load center and work to get the cabinet out, inspect the wires left behind…put twist caps over the wires after you clean up the connections then restore your main till you can figure your next move to reinstall new cabinet. But if your in a multi-dwelling building.. the wires may be from some other source in the same wall. Then call the super/Maintenance personel or an electrician.

Over the years I have developed a healthy distrust of wiring and shut all the power in the house off before going near it, not just the circuit breaker of the light fixture, or whatever I am replacing, the main breaker too.
I know that I *should* be able to just turn the breakers off for that one circuit, but I have several pairs of pliers with holes blown through the cutters from sparks.
I check to see if the circuit is actually off before touching it.
I also like the idea of locking the main breaker off with a padlock so that nobody turns the juice on while I am working on it.
